Amazon’s 43-inch Fire TV Omni series is on sale

Do you need a new TV for your study, office, bedroom or any other place where medium size is the right size? Look no further: For a limited time, the Amazon 43-inch Fire TV Omni Series is on sale for $290. That’s a hefty $120 discount and an unbeatable deal for a set that’s likely to last a decade or more. The Omni series is notable for a number of reasons, not least of which is Amazon’s built-in Fire TV interface. This provides access to not only all major streaming services, but also a useful selection of games and apps.

What we said about all those games and apps? Well, here’s big news: Zoom has joined that roster. Big screen video calls, anyone? To use it, you need a USB camera. Amazon recommends one of Logitech’s webcams, but theoretically any Zoom-compatible webcam should work.

All models in the Omni series also support hands-free Alexa control, meaning you can say things like “Alexa, turn on the TV” or “Alexa, watch What we do in the shadows on Hulu,” without ever touching the remote. I honestly didn’t think that was a big deal until I started testing one of these TVs, but trust me, hands-free commands are pretty handy.

Features like that, along with the aforementioned app support, help give Fire TV an edge over Roku. And I say that as someone who prefers the latter’s interface. Right now, especially with the addition of Zoom support, Fire is winning the smart TV war.

Ease of use versus performance

The Omni Fire TV is simple to use and provides easy access to all your favorite services, especially with the four buttons on the remote allowing you to jump directly to Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+ or Netflix. That said, some models – the 43-inch in particular – lack support for more advanced features. It doesn’t support Dolby Vision on this format, although it’s the same TV do support this feature on the 65-inch and 75-inch sizes.

This model is cheap and larger sizes are available, but there are some features that are not available with smaller TVs. That said, it does have three different HDMI ports, as well as a dedicated HDMI port for surround sound systems that will give you a more immersive experience.

Add a webcam (as seen above) to the Fire TV Omni series and you can enjoy Zoom calls on the big screen
