Genshin effect the second half of version 3.4 features one of the best event banners in the game yet, with both Hu Tao and Yelan having their replays together!

First reprized a year ago, Hu Tao has been one of the strongest 5-star DPS characters in the game since her release in 2021.

Her kit includes powerful Pyro DMG, and while many meta-breaking 5-stars have appeared since she came into play, Hu Tao is undeniably undefeated as a force of destruction to your enemies!

Yelan, on the other hand, has become one of the game’s most sought-after Hydro supports.

Her kit, which is similar to Xingqiu’s, focuses on toning down her team’s attacks and dealing with Hydro DMG off the field that works synergistically with your chosen DPS, allowing you to use many powerful elemental reactions, such as Vaporize, Electro-Charged, Frozen and Bloom for added DMG.

So we’re pretty sure it’s hard to decide which character to draw for! Here’s everything you need to know to help you decide to go for either one, because this is one run you definitely don’t want to miss.

If you need a DPS, head over to Hu Tao

Your decision making for this banner combination solely depends on what you need most in your account: do you need a DPS or a support?

If you don’t have a DPS character, or find it hard to clear endgame content like the Spiral Abyss, then Hu Tao might be the better choice.

Hu Tao is a 5 star Pyro Polearm user with a kit that is not beginner friendly at all. Her ATK increases when her HP drops below 50%, so players will need to find the perfect balance between taking damage and being good at dodging enemy attacks to avoid sending Hu Tao to the afterlife prematurely.

But this hurdle is quite easy to overcome once you master Hu Tao’s attack style and gameplay.

As such, Hu Tao can get you through most of the tough battles you might encounter, and she’s great even with little investment!

Many of her best supports are four-star characters that you may already have on your team, such as Xingqiu, Xiangling, and Sucrose. You can even settle for 4 star weapons like Dragon’s Bane or Deathmatch.

Either way, Hu Tao can only get better and better if you choose to dedicate some cash or hard-earned Primogems to her ultimate team and build.

In fact, with her best-in-slot weapon Staff of Homa, Xingqiu as her battery and Hydro support, as well as a painter like Zhongli, she is almost unstoppable.

Coincidentally, Yelan is also the capstone of Hu Tao’s ultimate team!

If you need support, go for Yelan

But Yelan is not only tied to Hu Tao. Yelan is perhaps the best Hydro support you can give to teams that rely on Hydro related reactions. Characters like Alhaitham, Tighnari, Yoimiya, Yanfei and basically any DPS character that isn’t Geo would want her on their team.

Yelan also has a unique kit that is easier to use than Hu Tao’s. Her ability allows her to do a quick dash that binds enemies together with Hydro threads, dishing out Hydro DMG, while her burst (like Xingqiu’s) dish out coordinated Hydro DMG.

Yelan, like Hu Tao, also benefits from tons of HP, but in her case she doesn’t always have to be on the verge of death. Yelan’s Hydro attacks from her burst shell of her Max HP, making her a fairly easy character to build.

You don’t need to invest that much either, as the free 4-star Fading Twilight event weapon works well for her, and even the 3-star Slingshot and Recurve bow are great free-to-play options.

But while Yelan is often pinned as a support, she can still be a formidable DPS with enough investment and in the right teams. As such, her versatility doesn’t tie her down to one role and allows her to fit into different roles for different teams, unlike Hu Tao who always has to be the DPS.

So if you’re looking for a meta DPS character, Hu Tao is the way to go. If you have a lot of DPS and don’t have better support then Yelan is the one to go for!

You certainly don’t want to miss this banner. It’s always once in a blue moon Genshin effect can give us banner replays going so fast. You won’t know when HoYoverse will let Hu Tao out of their vault again!

Genshin effect is currently in version 3.4, which runs until February 27. After version 3.4 comes version 3.5, containing the debuts of Dehya and Mika.
